The Blue And The Gray
9th November 1955
Written and produced by Charles Chilton
(last 3 minutes only)
I just remembered I also have a fragment of another Charles Chilton work. The rest of the reel seemed to have been recorded over sometime in the 60's but this remained at the end. I know that the music from the show was released as a Decca LP in 1961 but I don't know if they used audio from the show or re-recorded it.

Thanks for this , I like the informative nature of it

The prog. is available on Decca vinyl. Try on Discogs - quite cheap.
ReplyDeleteThe Decca vinyl is likely to be a remake. The Blue And The Gray was broadcast on Radio five times between 1955 and 1961 and every time it was a new production not a rebroadcast.
DeleteSadly many (most?) of Charles Chilton's works are locked away in the Beeb's dusty archives never to be heard again. Few were issued on vinyl. Poor way of treating the memories of talented staff. The same goes for Michael Mason, Charles Parker, Philip Donnellan, and A.L.Lloyd, Ewan MacColl, et al.
ReplyDeleteRather than locked away it's more likely they erased the tapes.
